TAX DEDUCTIONS?
If you have "passive" income from the stock market, investing in an independent film is a good option. If the film fails to produce a profit, then you can deduct all of your investment in the film. Taxes: At present, approximately 7.5% of the
Budget’s in state spending can be covered by cash collected using the net guaranteed amounts pursuant to agreements for tax credits, sale and leaseback funds and other tax subsidies.
Pre-Sales: A minimum of 30% of the Budget can also be covered using
bankable guarantees or standby letters of credit secured by foreign pre-sales,
output arrangements or equivalent agreements. 70% is typically held back
for future sales to foreign territories, which provides greater leverage for more
favorable deal making.
Deferred Payments: A minimum of 15% of producer, talent and/or service provider compensation can be deferred prior to a film’s release, if necessary.
Budget’s Contingency: If needed, 10% of a film’s
budgeted contingency may be held back or not used at all, reducing the overall
Budget and creating immediate savings for each production.Unitizing the various
re-coupment methods described above helps to ensure that an investor’s contribution
to one of Production Company’s approved productions will be used prudently and
positioned with minimal exposure. The results are designed to yield a higher success
rate of return at the film’s theatrical release.
